The Care Collective has launched its brand new website – take a look at thecarecollective.wales

Dozens of carers from across the UK have been flexing their creative skills through lockdown to create a range of poems for a special Carer Friendly poetry competition.

Unpaid carers were asked to submit a poem or lyrical verse in whatever format they wish – be it a film, visual, artwork or audio file – via social media and our websites. The only guidelines were that entries shine a light on what it’s like to be an unpaid carer at this time.

Carer Friendly are very pleased to announce the following winners in each of the four categories:

  • Sophia Browett, aged 11 from Caerphilly. Winner of the age 4-11yrs category
  • Katie Wilkins & Lauren Couch, aged 14 from Swansea. Winners of the age 12-17yrs category
  • Keira Evans, aged 24 from Cardiff. Winner of the age 18-25yrs category
  • Peter Dawson, aged 71, from Derbyshire. Winner of the age 26+ category

Winners in each of the age categories will receive vouchers to the value of £50 and Kiera will also be offered the opportunity to collaborate with the University of Wales Film and TV School to record her poem!

Carer Friendly Manager, Sian Salkeld, said: “We want to say a huge thank you to to all the poets who entered. We were overwhelmed by the creativity, the talent and the number of responses we have received. The only regret is that there can only be one winner in each age category. However, we would like to give a special mention to the runners up – Resauk, Cullen and Freddie.”

Special thanks to the generous sponsors: Carers Trust South East Wales, Colour Lusting, Experience Days and the University of South Wales Film & TV School. Carer Friendly aims to improve, share and recognise support for carers in health and social care service areas.
